About Us-A Brief Introduction |
|
“Subhalaxmi Bahumukhee Mahila Samabaya
Samiti Limited” a women institution commonly
known as Subhalaxmi Cooperative, has
emerged as a model community-based
organization in Jharsuguda district of Odisha.
A member owned & managed women
institution is designed to create a landmark for
the underprivileged people of the locality in
uplifting their socio-economic conditions and
to ensure livelihood security of their family.
With an aim to provide quality livelihood
and financial services to the families of Plant
periphery, this community-based institution had
been set up in 2008 under the aegis of “Vedanta
Integrated Jana Jeevika Yojana” (a livelihood
initiative taken up by Vedanta Limited with the
technical support of a national level agency).
Since then, the member-owned, member-managed & member-controlled women
cooperative has been extending sustainable
livelihood solutions to its members through
quality financial and business development
services. Training and capacity building for skill
enhancement of women on farm & non-farm
is being given to its members. Subhalaxmi has
gained huge recognition and support among
its members, government departments and
private institutions of the region due to its quality
service delivery system.
The core of Subhalaxmi Cooperative’s services
delivery has four basic components: Capacity
Building & Livelihood Promotion, Financial
services (saving & credit), Social development
and collaboration & partnership.
Over a period, of time, this community institution
has achieved its significant achievement.
The project has a wider scope of scaling up
& replication in other areas as it has been

demonstrated, successfully at Vedanta Limited Jharsuguda. Hence, Vedanta has initiated
“Project Subhalaxmi Udyogini” and onboarded EDII (a national level agency) to scale up this
project from 4100 to 10,000 membership base in next 3 years. Targeting to cover around 70%
of members of total membership base, who will be engaged through various entrepreneurship
development program and enterprises (farm & non-farm sector). Aiming to enhance income by
50% from the current level.
